John Fortney was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, one of seven children. After high school, he joined the U.S. Air Force, which instilled in him a lifelong love of the military and aviation. Following an honorable discharge from the military, John, the consummate salesman, enjoyed a long and successful career as a commercial insurance agent. He married and had two children, son Shawn and daughter Karen. Later in life, he became an avid golfer and became a proud member of Greensburg Country Club. John yearned for grandchildren and, after a long wait, his first granddaughter, the love of his life, was born. He also saw his twin grandsons, one his namesake, come into the world.
John found great joy in life. He loved to laugh and had a terrific sense of humor. He was a kind, generous, compassionate man and a loyal friend who enjoyed the most extraordinary friendships. He is greatly missed.
